Vaisala has been evaluated as the most sustainable Finnish stock-listed company on two fronts. In a reputation study among Finnish private investors, Vaisala was voted as the most sustainable company. Additionally, Vaisala is on the top place in an ESG rating by Sustainalytics, an expert in sustainability analytics of stock-listed companies.

T-Media is a leading reputation analytics company in Finland. In May–June 2021, it conducted a study among Finnish private investors regarding the reputation of Finnish stock-listed companies in collaboration with the Finnish Shareholders’ Association and the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion. T-Media’s research model quantifies reputation as a whole as well as in eight categories: governance, finance, management, innovativeness, interaction, products & services, employment, and sustainability.

Vaisala scored very well in all eight categories but received the highest score in sustainability: 4.09 on a scale of 1–5. The study also found that company reputation is a major factor when making investment decisions. Combined with the fact that sustainability is increasingly important among investors, this result is no small feat and proves of the great sustainability work Vaisala is doing, helping to solve some of our world’s grand challenges.

ESG metrics show that Vaisala’s sustainability is not only an image but a fact

Out of Finnish stock-listed companies, Vaisala has gathered prestige for its sustainability also on another front. Sustainalytics – a company that rates the sustainability of listed companies based on their environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) performance – has evaluated 63 Finnish stock-listed companies. Vaisala scores at the very top of the list as no 1.

In the rating, Vaisala's ESG risk score is 4.9, which means that the ESG risk is categorized as negligible. Vaisala’s environmental scores are top-notch, and overall Vaisala receives top scores in most categories ranging from ESG governance to supply chain management. Vaisala’s most important development areas is related to strengthening diversity management, which is also increasingly on Vaisala’s agenda going forward.

“The study by T-Media shows that our future-oriented business and position among key global megatrends such as climate change have been well received by private investors, whereas the Sustainalytics rating shows that the opinion of the investors is truly well-founded. We have been living our mission and developing science-based innovations for a more sustainable future for decades, and never has it been more important for our planet than now,” says Kai Öistämö, Vaisala’s President and CEO.

“The heart of Vaisala’s sustainability lies in the positive impact of our products, as they help our customers, for example, to prepare for extreme weather events, increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy, as well as reduce emissions. Nonetheless, we have put a lot of work also into developing our own sustainable business practices, and it’s great to see this work reflected in Sustainalytics’ ESG evaluation,” comments Marjo Hietapuro, Sustainability Manager at Vaisala.
